We really enjoyed having Mike Hiller from Bavarian Barbarian on the Friday BeerBuzz a few months ago and we were honored that he chose to announce his new co-brew with Terry Hawbaker on our show. Mike is now announcing Gothika in a press release AND announcing his moves in into the Philly market. Exciting news Mike!

BARBARIAN INVASION OF PHILADELPHIA UNDERWAY Williamsport Brewery Begins Distribution in the Big City WILLIAMSPORT, PA – Building on successful distribution in the counties surrounding Philadelphia, Bavarian Barbarian Brewing Company recently began distribution in the city itself. Contracting with Philadelphia’s own wholesale powerhouse, Bella Vista Beer Distributors, the Barbarian’s 2x4 India Pale Ale and Hammerin’ Ale have already hit the city market and will soon be followed by Headbangerz Brown Ale and Steel Drivin’ Stout. After tremendous success working with Gretz Beer Company in Bucks, Berks, Montgomery and Delaware Counties, the Bavarian Barbarian’s founder and brewer, Mike Hiller, decided that the next logical step was to invade the Philadelphia market. After several weeks of researching wholesalers and the craft beer market in Philadelphia, Mike found that Bella Vista would make the best wholesale partner for the Barbarian. In fact, Bella Vista sold out of the first shipment of Barbarian beers within days of its delivery. A big part of the decision to begin pushing into the city came from the very positive response of Philadelphians at various beer festivals, including the Philly Beer Week Opening Tap event. Today we welcomed a unique guest to the Friday BeerBuzz. We normally welcome brew masters who make a living brewing beer for some of our local (and not so local) breweries. But keep in mind for every brewer that is brewing professionally, there are hundreds of home brewers brewing for the simple love of brewing beer.
Our guest today was Chuck Yarmey, founder of the Wyoming Valley Homebrewers. Chuck and President Joe Miller are celebrating their 15th year as a club so we’d encourage you to stop down to Sabatini’s on Sept 13th at 7PM and attend their monthly meeting. (I know I’ll be there). If you ever had any interest in home brewing yourself, participating in a home brewing session with one of the members OR simply hanging out and talking beer with a bunch of guys that love beer, this club is for you.

Now I know what you’re saying….home brewed beers are just “OK” beers and not so great…well you’d be wrong. Not only did we taste two fantastic brews today, but John & I also judged the Wyoming Valley Homebrewers competition back in June and the beers were really good. I should also note that a few years back, the guys had a Bourbon Porter that was by far one of the best beers at the Split Rock Great American Beer Festival, even compared to professional brews. These home brews are good!
Today we tasted an IPA and a Baltic Porter, and congratulations to the brewers of these beers, because we really enjoyed them. I think we also broke new ground here by bringing the first homebrewing beers on the radio to sample. I can also tell you Beer Cam really enjoyed riding shotgun on the IPA bottle as well while we tasted.
Another amazing show if I do say so myself…and two more tasty beers.
Thanks
to Chuck, John, Nancy, Joe & Bosco for yet another fun Friday.

Crisp and refreshing straw colored ale with the characteristics found in most commercial lagers. A refreshing brew to all the High Alcohol variants. 4.50/pint
Since we’re approaching the Oktoberfest season, I thought this would be a great label. I present to you Hop Oktoberfest…and be sure to check out the pretzel logo.
Strangest ingredient you’ve ever had in a beer? Today the guys talked about the Yards founders series Ben Franklin Spruce Ale as Chip’s oddest ingredient….and I’ll agree that the Ben Franklin Ale is odd, but Spruce is probably not the oddest ingredient for me. I guess I’d probably vote for either Oysters, or the odd coffee bean that is actually digested by a wild civet cat, pooped out, and then used to make beer (and coffee)….very odd.
Today the guys tasted Wild Goose Pumpkin Patch Ale and everyone seemed to like it. Not my favorite pumpkin beer, but interesting for sure. Cheers guys.
I can’t believe the end of summer has arrived. Yes I love the three day weekend but I can’t tell you how much I’d rather it be the Memorial Day weekend and not Labor Day…but again I digress.
Last week’s show we premiered the Beer Cam and tasted Weeping Radish Black Radish. The beer was yummy and who know the Beer Cam would become such an instant celebrity. People love the Beer Cam and rest assured he (or she) will become a regular guest and co-host of the show. I can’t guarantee such a celebrity will be available for every show, but we’ll do our best.
So what will we be tasting this week?
Hint: This week we’ll be tasting more than one beer I guarantee YOU’ve never tried. This will be a unique show with a unique guest.
Tune in at 8:30AM and see what beer we sample on the Friday Beerbuzz on WILK…bringing good beers and good people together.

Just thought you’d want a peek at the new label for this year’s Breaker Brewing Co Pot Belly Pumpkin Ale.
