Frozen Falls Beer Festival – Garrettsville, OH

Posted By Brewmaster on February 2, 2009

No matter how awful the roads are or how terrible the weather may be, its not going to stop me from getting to great beer.

After traveling from Erie to Jamestown, PA, my friends and I loaded up the old four wheel sleigh for a destination none of us were familiar with: Garrettsville, OH.  A variety pack of Hook & Ladder assisted us along the way almost better than our Garmin GPS.  Our journey took just over an hour and as we crested the knoll coming into Garrettsville, the sun shined on one place that day like an angel from above, The Main Street Grille and Brewery

The brewery sits nestled next to a picturesque waterfall which is as inviting as heading to grandmas house for dinner.   Set in a gigantic mill that has stood for around 200 years on the river next to the waterfall, the interior and exterior wood is very inviting and the views are amazing. The festival was located right within a small bar area that overlooked the beautiful waterfall.   It was at this point when I realized I had  forgotten my camera and had to take pictures with my cell phone, so I apologize for the blurriness.

Several local brewers were on hand to offer up some of their greatest treasures, however the small room was barely large enough to contain everybody.

Attendees:

  • Blue Canoe – Titusville, PA
  • Voodoo Brewery – Meadville, PA
  • Erie Brewing Company – Erie, PA
  • Brewerie – Erie, PA
  • Rock Bottom – Cleveland, OH
  • Thirsty Dog – Akron, OH
  • Rocky River – Rocky River, OH
  • Buckeye Brewing Company – Lakewood, OH
  • Main Street Grille and Brewery – Garrettsville, OH

Since most of these breweries were not new to my palette, I decided to try out the hometown favorite first.  The Main Street Grill’s  beers were full of flavor; my favorite had to be the 12 Daze of Christmas.  Their APA was delicious as well, however, I am hop lover and it just didn’t have enough for me.

Main Street Grill’s food menu is extensive and offers several creative dishes.   We did not eat anything during the brew festival, but after smelling and seeing what the brewers were eating, it made us wish the festival area would have been conducive to do so.

The session went by so fast and all the brewers were very accommodating.  The Erie Brewing reps gave us several nice gifts before we headed out.  Matt from Voodoo graciously topped off our growler full of White Magick and we headed back East with a bag full of empty pints, veins full of good beer, and an afternoon full of memories.

We country boys may not be the ones for jewelry, but we were so glad to find this diamond in the rough.

  1. Guess you guys attended the 2nd session. I was there for the 1st session and missed seeing you. Rats. Anyway, I thought the venue wasn’t adequate to the number of tickets sold .. in other words, it was over crowded. However, a lot of folks left early, leaving more elbow room for the rest of us. I tried the ‘house brews’ as well, and would say you were very generous in your compliments. OTOH, all my BA friends as well as myself found Voodoo brewing to the the ‘rock star’ of the fest. All samples were absolutely spot on. One of my BA friends is having me pick up a case of Voodoo assortment bombers for him, perhaps this weekend. We all had a great time, and enjoyed the live music coming from the one man band on the 2nd floor. After the fest, my friends and I went to Sean’s Pub & Eatery down the street for a nice quite time to eat a lunch and drink plenty of water before driving home. Thanks for your report. Hope to catch you at another event in the future.
