Nelson’s

From the minute you walk into Nelson’s, you feel as if you’ve been transported to somewhere hospitable and warm with a twist of cool.  Raleigh came to mind to Chad and me having recently seen it this past summer, Nelson’s atmosphere echoed songs of the South, and it’s not just because the Chef used to work there.

From the delectable menu to the design layout to the obvious pension for music to the decor, Bob Nelson provides us Erie-ites with something we’ve been missing all along; class with personality.  And with age, just as our favorite drinks tend to do, it can only get better.

This was the second time Chad and I had been into the newly-opened Nelson’s, but the first time to eat there.  The food is as delicious as it smells.  I had the Macaroni & Cheese with apple smoked bacon, jalapenos, and local cheddar and Chad had a burger and fries.  We will definitely be back not only for the drinks, but for the food as well.

For the smokers out there, Nelson’s even has a room sectioned off with an additional bar for the smoker friendly crowd.  This is a perk for both smokers and non-smokers in that Nelson’s could have chosen not to serve food and solicit all bargoers, but instead, they decided to serve food in a non-smoking atmosphere that allows for smokers to still enjoy the space, but in their own little cloud.  A win-win situation, indeed.

As for the beers – I had a Magic Hat H.I.P.A and Chad started off with a Hazed & Infused and followed with a H.I.P.A.   They also offer a variety of microbrews, which we hear will be supplemented in the coming days.  Micros on tap include Yuengling, Magic Hat #9, Erie Brewing’s Misery Bay IPA, and Southern Tier’s Phin & Matt’s.

Micro specials include Wednesdays 10pm – Midnight 1/2 off and Saturday’s 8pm-10pm where you can save $1 off of everything.  If you’re looking for the Imports, Friday’s offer a Port O’ Call starting at $2 from 8pm – 10pm.

Soon, Nelson’s will be featuring live bands blending the best of three worlds – good beer, good food, good music.  My friends, I don’t think it gets any better than this.
